Our oldest daughter is turning 5 in a few days, and I’m making some of the treats for her splendid mermaid party we’re throwing for her. I starting scanning Pinterest for inspiration as many moms these days do, and I found myself really wanting to try cookie decorating again. Like I HAD to do it. Something within me would not quiet down until I did it. But cookie decorating has always been one of those mysterious, illusive arts that I just couldn’t wrap my head around. I had attempted to learn about 8 years ago by participating in a local Christmas cookie decorating class, and let’s just say it didn’t go so well. My cookies were pretty disastrous. And as a traditionally trained artist, I was fairly disappointed that I couldn’t master what seemed to be a simple idea, and never tried cookie decorating again. Until this week.
A few days ago, I was inspired by some beautiful cookie creations, and happened upon a video by Patti Page of Baked Ideas in NYC. I’m telling you. She spoke my language. It made sense. I had the confidence I needed after seeing her beginner cookie decorating video to make awesome cookies myself. They definitely aren’t Pinterest-Perfect, but I’m pretty happy with these new attempts! And I’m so excited to make more. Thanks, Patti!
